Story # 3: Thailand and the Future
“Darwin, where are the stairs?””
What stairs?””
The stairs to heaven – with coffee this good we must be awfully close!”
That was our conversation after my first sip of coffee at a small cafe in northern Thailand. Leanne and I had been in Chiang Mai at a tri-annual conference the week prior that I co-led with Andy Miller (another SEND missionary) for our SEND missionaries. After the conference we traveled north to Chiang Rai with Darwin & Gennie, SEND missionaries who have served there for a number of years. We had the opportunity to see what God is doing among the Shan people, to see and hear of the possibilities and to be challenged to keep our eyes open for God’s leading. And of course, we go to sample the amazing coffee and cuisine
That trip was indicative of what God is doing in our lives. Since returning to Canada in the summer of 2014, I (John) have had the opportunity to be out of country every year at least once. Each year I would lead a ministry team to Ukraine, and I also had opportunities to serve at conferences in Thailand, USA, Spain and across Canada. God has opened doors and closed doors, and continues to show us that He has something for us to do for the body of Christ. As we continue to serve Him, He keeps the fanning the flame of desire to serve in another country and we shall see where that leads.
In the meantime, life continues to be interesting. It may not be the day to day adventure that living in Ukraine was, but it definitely has its moments.
