Spain is an amazing country with an amazing history. It has culture, cuisine and a heritage that has influenced entire continents. It also has some very interesting festivals – for both the brave and the foolish (depending on your point of view).
In Pamplona there is a centuries old tradition of the “Running of the Bulls”. 6 Spanish fighting bulls and 6 steers run from point to another chasing a group of individuals who desire to see if they can run faster than their 4 legged counterparts.
In Buñol on the last Wednesday of August approximately 20,000 people come together for an hour and have a food fight with more than 319,000 lbs of tomatoes. The festival is called La Tomatina. According to local folklore, the festival began in the 1940’s when a few teenagers enjoying a local religious festival picked up a few tomatoes that had fallen off of a passing truck and began tossing them at each other, unknowingly creating of of Spain’s very popular annual event.
