When I was in my late teens I learned how to tie a tie (say that fast a few times) – the true test of patience and character. I always wondered who thought up the idea of having something tied like this and for what reason…. Well, it seems that the necktie originated from Croats who were fighting as mercenaries for the Kingdom of France. So fellows who got paid to swing a sword, throw a spear and use a bow in order to inflict fatal wounds on their enemies came up with the idea. I hope at that time it had a practical purpose. Who knows – maybe they did it to stand out from the crowd, and the crowd, seeing that they were such a standout, decided to follow the fashion….
