Did You Know – Nunavut (Canada)

Nunavut is home to the world’s northernmost permanently inhabited place, Alert (permanent population = 5).

It’s located at the tip of Ellesmere Island and is only 508 miles (817 km) from the Artic Pole. When you are that close to the Pole, your daylight lasts for 5 months, your darkness lasts for 5 months and the transition months the sun bobs along the horizon. Temperatures are also a lot of fun – you only get above freezing during July & August and in the winter -40 C is considered normal.

Definitely not a popular tourist destination but it would be an interesting place to see.
